History

Crary Company, founded in 1979, began when Chuck and Joe Crary, cousins, purchased Delzer Machine Shop, located in Fargo, North Dakota. Chuck, a CPA, was working for an accounting firm in Fargo and Joe was involved in real estate development. Crary Company began as a small machining shop for area agricultural businesses and customers. The two owners had just two employees in the original shop. The shop itself was an old steel building with little heat and no running water. Chuck and Joe knew the only way the organization would be successful was by surrounding themselves with excellent employees. This practice has provided the company with continued success and growth over the life of the company.

As demand for its products increased, Crary Company grew and required additional space. In 1981, a new 6,000 square foot building was erected at its present location in West Fargo, North Dakota. The company doubled its size about every 5 years. The most recent and largest addition was made in 1999, the result of Crary Company beginning to manufacture the Lockwood product line in West Fargo. Thus, the latest addition took place, increasing the building size to 202,000 square feet.

In February 1999, KRG Capital Partners, LLC, purchased Crary Company. KRG is an equity investment firm based in Denver, Colorado. At that time, Crary Company joined three sister companies already owned by KRG: Harriston Industries (Minto, ND), Lockwood Manufacturing (Gering, NE), and Mayo Manufacturing (East Grand Forks, MN). The four companies combined together and named the collective organization TerraMarc Industries. In the spring of 1999, the decision was made to move production of Lockwood products from Gering, Nebraska, to Crary Company's plant in West Fargo. With this move came the need for additional space.

Along with the increase in building size came an increase in the work force and products produced. The work force at Crary Company increased from 116 employees in May of 1999 to 180 employees in May of 2001. The products produced prior to the addition included agricultural products such as the Air Reel, Cyclone chaff spreader and the Big Top hopper extension; outdoor power equipment marketed under the Bearcat trade name; the WeedRoller for weed removal in lakes; and fans for various OEM customers. With the addition of the Lockwood line, Crary Company began manufacturing Lockwood potato equipment, including planters, harvesters and windrowers.

Lockwood included three retail stores at the time the manufacturing plant was moved to West Fargo. TerraMarc Industries now includes 5 retail stores: Lockwood located in Paul and Rexburg, ID; Lockwood located in Presque Isle, ME; North Valley Equipment located in Grafton, ND; and TerraMarc of Wisconsin located in Plover, WI.

The growth of the company in West Fargo resulted in Crary Company (TerraMarc Industries) being awarded the Triumph Award for the Year 2000. The award is presented yearly by the Fargo-Cass County Economic Development Corporation to the manufacturer in Cass-Clay County that most exemplifies economic growth and excellence.

Guided by its mission statement and propelled by its employees, Crary Company continues to develop new products and improve its existing products. Crary Company embraces a culture in which the most valuable asset of the company is the employee and the most valuable asset to the company is the customer. With this corporate philosophy, Crary Company is looking forward to a long relationship with customers and a lasting presence in the industry.
